Proven Winners® At Last® Rose is a compact, easy-care shrub rose with fragrant, fully-petaled sunset-orange flowers and glossy dark green foliage. Its disease resistance and exceptionally long bloom season provide classic rose beauty without the demanding care traditionally associated with roses.

  • Botanical name: Rosa × 'HORCOGJIL' USPP 27,541
  • Bloom time: Late spring through frost
  • Deciduous perennial
  • Grown in the USA

SUNLIGHT
Prefers full sun with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for the best flowering and overall performance.

WATER
Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry, approximately once or twice per week during establishment. Once established, water during extended hot or dry periods and avoid consistently saturated soil. Watering needs vary based on climate, rainfall, soil, sunlight, drainage, and establishment phase.

IDEAL CLIMATE
Best suited for Zones 4–9. At Last® is adaptable across cold, temperate, and warm climates and performs best in sunny locations with well-draining soil and good air circulation.

At Last® Rose is known for combining strong disease resistance with true rose fragrance, making it much easier to care for than many traditional fragrant roses. Its glossy foliage shows good resistance to common rose diseases, and routine spraying is generally unnecessary.

The sunset-orange flowers can show apricot, peach, and soft orange tones, and their exact coloring may vary somewhat as individual flowers mature and with changing weather conditions.

PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Proven Winners® At Last® Rose, scientifically known as Rosa × 'HORCOGJIL', is a compact shrub rose that combines the fragrance and full, romantic flowers of a classic rose with the easy care and disease resistance of a modern landscape rose. Large, fully-petaled sunset-orange to apricot blooms have a sweet rose fragrance and appear continuously from late spring through frost against glossy, dark green foliage. Its compact, rounded habit makes it an excellent choice for borders, foundation plantings, mass plantings, containers, and cut flower gardens.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate. Reaches approximately 2.5–3 feet tall and 2.5–3 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water your newly planted At Last® Rose when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry, typically about once or twice per week during establishment. Once established, water less frequently but provide supplemental water during extended periods of heat or drought. Avoid allowing the root zone to become excessively dry or remain consistently saturated. There is no fixed watering schedule, so always check the soil first and adjust based on climate, rainfall, temperature, sunlight exposure, soil type, drainage, and establishment phase.

At Last® Rose performs best in full sun with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. Adequate sunlight encourages abundant flowers, dense growth, and overall plant health.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING
Prune in early spring as new buds begin to emerge. Cut the shrub back by about one-third of its height and remove any dead or damaged branches. At Last® blooms on new wood, so spring pruning helps encourage healthy new growth and plenty of flowers.

FERTILIZING
Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish. Once established, apply a balanced or rose fertilizer in spring as new growth begins. Avoid fertilizing in fall or winter.

WINTER PROTECTION
At Last® Rose is hardy to Zone 4 and generally requires little winter protection once established within its recommended growing zones. Apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch over the root zone, keeping it several inches away from the base of the plant.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a location with full sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper than the root ball itself. Remove the nursery pot and gently loosen any tightly bound or circling roots. Position the rose so the top of the root ball sits level with or slightly above the surrounding soil. Backfill using only the native soil removed from the planting hole without adding compost, peat moss, sand, rock, or other amendments directly to the hole. Gently firm the soil and water slowly and deeply throughout the root ball and surrounding soil. Apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the root zone, keeping mulch several inches away from the base of the plant.

Space At Last® Roses approximately 2.5–3 feet apart, center to center, to accommodate their mature width.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 4-9

At Last® Rose grows well throughout USDA Zones 4–9, giving it impressive versatility from cold northern climates to warmer southern regions. Proven Winners expanded its cold-hardiness rating from Zone 5 to Zone 4 in 2024 based on performance reported by growers and gardeners. It performs best in full sun with good air circulation and well-draining soil. In hotter climates, consistent watering during prolonged heat helps maintain healthy growth and flowering.

Important: USDA Hardiness Zones only measure a plant's cold tolerance. They do not account for heat tolerance, humidity, rainfall, or other climate factors. Always consider your local growing conditions in addition to your USDA Zone when selecting plants.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
