Pink Pom Poms® Redbud is one of the most unique flowering trees available, producing masses of extraordinary double pink blooms that resemble fluffy pom-poms. Flowering before the foliage emerges in early spring, it creates a spectacular display unlike any traditional redbud. After blooming, attractive heart-shaped green leaves fill the canopy, providing beauty throughout the growing season before turning soft yellow in fall.

  • Botanical name: Cercis canadensis 'Pink Pom Poms'
  • Bloom time: Early spring
  • Deciduous
  • Grown in the USA

SUNLIGHT
Prefers full sun to partial shade.

WATER
Water deeply at the base when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry. During establishment, this is typically once or twice per week, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Once established, water less frequently during dry periods. Watering frequency may vary based on climate, soil type, rainfall, sunlight exposure, and establishment phase.

IDEAL CLIMATE
Hardy in USDA Zones 5–9. Pink Pom Poms Redbud thrives in temperate climates and performs beautifully as a specimen tree, front yard focal point, or ornamental landscape tree.

Note: For the healthiest establishment, check the soil near the base of the tree before watering rather than following a fixed schedule. Water deeply when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry.

PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

The Pink Pom Poms Redbud, scientifically known as Cercis canadensis 'Pink Pom Poms', is a truly unique ornamental tree prized for its extraordinary double pink flowers that resemble fluffy pom-poms. Unlike traditional redbuds with single blooms, this exceptional variety produces abundant, fully double blossoms that cover the bare branches in early spring before the foliage emerges. Its show-stopping flowers, heart-shaped leaves, and compact size make it an unforgettable focal point for front yards, patios, and ornamental landscapes.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate-growing deciduous ornamental tree. Typically reaches approximately 15–20 feet tall and 15–25 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply at the base when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry. During establishment, this is typically once or twice per week, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Once established, water less frequently, providing occasional deep watering during extended dry periods. Watering frequency will vary depending on climate, soil type, rainfall, sunlight exposure, and the tree's establishment phase.

Pink Pom Poms Redbud grows best in full sun to partial shade. Trees planted in full sun typically produce the heaviest flowering, while afternoon shade can be beneficial in hotter climates.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING
Prune immediately after flowering if needed to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and maintain the tree's natural shape. Little pruning is typically required once established.

FERTILIZING
Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring if desired to encourage healthy growth. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION
Pink Pom Poms Redbud is cold hardy throughout its recommended growing range. Apply a layer of mulch around the base to help conserve moisture and insulate the roots during winter, especially during the first year after planting.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Plant Pink Pom Poms Redbud in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as the rootball and no deeper than the rootball itself. Position the top of the rootball level with or slightly above the surrounding soil, backfill with native soil, water deeply after planting, and apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base while keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 5–9

Pink Pom Poms Redbud thrives in a wide range of climates and performs best in full sun to partial shade with well-draining soil. It is highly adaptable throughout much of the United States and tolerates both heat and cold within its recommended growing range. In warmer climates, afternoon shade can help reduce leaf scorch during periods of intense summer heat.

Important: USDA Hardiness Zones only measure a plant's cold tolerance. They do not account for heat tolerance, humidity, rainfall, or other climate factors. Always consider your local growing conditions in addition to your USDA Zone when selecting plants.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pink Pom Poms Redbud typically grows 15–20 feet tall and 15–25 feet wide at maturity. Its broad, rounded canopy makes it a beautiful specimen tree that provides outstanding spring color and graceful structure throughout the growing season.

Pink Pom Poms Redbud is considered a moderate-growing ornamental tree and typically grows approximately 1–2 feet per year under favorable growing conditions.

Pink Pom Poms Redbud grows best in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Plant it where its spectacular spring blooms can be enjoyed, such as near an entryway, patio, front yard, or as a landscape focal point.

Plant Pink Pom Poms Redbuds approximately 18–25 feet apart to provide adequate room for their mature canopy and healthy air circulation. If planting near buildings or other trees, allow enough space for the tree's broad, rounded canopy to develop naturally.

Pink Pom Poms Redbud blooms in early spring, producing abundant double pink flowers before the leaves emerge.

After flowering, heart-shaped green leaves emerge and create a lush canopy throughout the growing season. In fall, the foliage turns attractive shades of golden yellow before naturally dropping for winter.

One of the unique features of Pink Pom Poms Redbud is that it produces few to no seed pods. Because its flowers are fully double, they are largely sterile, allowing the tree to put more energy into its spectacular spring blooms rather than producing seed pods.

Yes. Pink Pom Poms Redbud's blooms have a light, sweet fragrance that can be enjoyed up close during the spring flowering season. While the fragrance is subtle, the tree's extraordinary double blooms are its most celebrated feature.

Unlike traditional redbuds with single flowers, Pink Pom Poms Redbud produces fully double blooms that resemble small pink pom-poms. This unique flower form gives the tree a fuller, more dramatic appearance during spring bloom.

Homeowners love Pink Pom Poms Redbud for its one-of-a-kind double pink flowers, compact size, and incredible spring display. Its fluffy, pom-pom-like blooms create a dramatic focal point that few other ornamental trees can match.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
