Golden Falls® Redbud is an extraordinary ornamental tree that combines cascading, weeping branches with brilliant golden foliage for season-long landscape interest. Rosy-pink flowers blanket the bare branches in early spring before the vibrant golden, heart-shaped leaves emerge and brighten the garden throughout the growing season. Its compact size and dramatic form make it an unforgettable specimen tree for smaller landscapes, patios, entryways, and decorative garden beds.

  • Botanical name: Cercis canadensis 'NC2015-12'
  • Bloom time: Early spring
  • Deciduous
  • Grown in the USA

SUNLIGHT
Prefers full sun to partial shade.

WATER
Water deeply at the base when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry. During establishment, this is typically once or twice per week, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Once established, water less frequently during dry periods. Watering frequency may vary based on climate, soil type, rainfall, sunlight exposure, and establishment phase.

IDEAL CLIMATE
Hardy in USDA Zones 5–9. Golden Falls Redbud thrives in temperate climates and is an exceptional choice for specimen plantings, patios, entryways, and smaller ornamental landscapes.

Note: Golden Falls Redbud naturally develops a graceful weeping form and brilliant golden foliage that creates a dramatic focal point throughout the growing season.

For the healthiest establishment, check the soil near the base of the tree before watering rather than following a fixed schedule. Water deeply when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry.

PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

The Golden Falls® Redbud Tree, scientifically known as Cercis canadensis 'NC2015-12', is a truly distinctive ornamental tree that combines brilliant golden foliage with a graceful weeping form. In early spring, rosy-pink flowers bloom along the cascading branches before the leaves emerge, creating a spectacular display. As the season progresses, vibrant heart-shaped golden leaves brighten the landscape from spring through fall before turning soft yellow in autumn. Its unique color, elegant form, and compact size make it an exceptional focal point for front yards, patios, entryways, and decorative gardens.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate-growing deciduous ornamental tree. Typically reaches approximately 8–10 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply at the base when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry. During establishment, this is typically once or twice per week, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Once established, water less frequently, providing occasional deep watering during extended dry periods. Watering frequency will vary depending on climate, soil type, rainfall, sunlight exposure, and the tree's establishment phase.

Golden Falls Redbud grows best in full sun to partial shade. Full sun promotes the brightest foliage color, while afternoon shade can help reduce leaf scorch and preserve the vibrant golden leaves in warmer climates.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING
Minimal pruning is required. Prune after flowering if needed to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches while preserving the tree's naturally graceful weeping habit.

FERTILIZING
Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring if desired to encourage healthy growth. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION
Golden Falls Redbud is cold hardy throughout its recommended growing range. Apply mulch around the base to help conserve moisture and insulate the roots during the first few winters after planting.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Plant Golden Falls Redbud in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as the rootball and no deeper than the rootball itself. Position the top of the rootball level with or slightly above the surrounding soil, backfill with native soil, water deeply after planting, and apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base while keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 5–9

Golden Falls Redbud thrives in a wide range of climates and performs best in full sun to partial shade with well-draining soil. It is cold hardy throughout much of the United States and adapts well to both residential landscapes and ornamental gardens. In hotter climates, afternoon shade can help preserve the brilliant golden foliage during the peak of summer.

Important: USDA Hardiness Zones only measure a plant's cold tolerance. They do not account for heat tolerance, humidity, rainfall, or other climate factors. Always consider your local growing conditions in addition to your USDA Zone when selecting plants.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
