PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Eastern White Pine, scientifically known as Pinus strobus, is a graceful evergreen conifer known for its soft, feathery blue-green needles and tall, elegant form. Native to eastern North America, this fast-growing pine tree is widely planted for privacy screens, windbreaks, and large landscape plantings. Its long, flexible needles and airy branching create a soft texture in the landscape while providing year-round greenery and wildlife habitat.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Fast growth rate. Typically grows 2–3 feet per year and can reach 50–80 feet tall and 20–40 feet wide at maturity under ideal conditions.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply once per week during the first growing season to help establish the root system. After establishment, Eastern White Pine becomes fairly drought tolerant but benefits from occasional watering during prolonged dry periods. Watering needs vary depending on soil type, rainfall, climate, and grow zone.

Eastern White Pine grows best in full sun, though it can tolerate partial sun. Adequate sunlight encourages strong vertical growth and dense needle development.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Eastern White Pine typically requires minimal pruning due to its naturally graceful form. Remove dead or damaged branches as needed. If shaping is desired, pruning should be done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

FERTILIZING:
Most established Eastern White Pine trees do not require fertilization. If planted in nutrient-poor soil, apply a balanced slow-release evergreen fertilizer in early spring to encourage healthy growth. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Eastern White Pine is highly cold hardy and generally requires no winter protection within its recommended growing zones. Applying mulch around young trees can help retain soil moisture and protect roots from temperature fluctuations.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Select a planting site with full sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole two to three times wider than the root ball and about the same depth as the container so the tree sits at the same level it was growing in the nursery pot. Place the tree in the hole, backfill with soil, and gently firm the soil around the roots to eliminate air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting. Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base of the tree to help conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 3-8

Eastern White Pine grows well in USDA Zones 3–8 and is commonly found throughout the eastern United States and parts of Canada. This evergreen thrives in cooler to moderate climates and tolerates cold winters very well. It performs best in areas with well-draining soil and plenty of sunlight. In warmer southern regions, providing adequate moisture and airflow helps maintain healthy growth.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
