Coral Knock Out® Rose Tree combines the vibrant coral-orange flowers and easy-care performance of Coral Knock Out® Rose with an elegant tree form. Its rounded flowering canopy sits above a single upright trunk, creating a colorful focal point for patios, entryways, walkways, containers, and garden beds.

  • Botanical name: Rosa 'Radral' PP19,803
  • Bloom time: Spring through frost
  • Deciduous
  • Grown in the USA

SUNLIGHT
Prefers full sun with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for the best flowering and overall performance.

WATER
Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry, approximately once or twice per week during establishment. Once established, water during extended hot or dry periods and avoid consistently saturated soil. Watering needs vary based on climate, rainfall, soil, sunlight, drainage, and establishment phase.

IDEAL CLIMATE
Best suited for Zones 5–11. Coral Knock Out® handles summer heat very well and thrives in sunny temperate and warm climates. Because this is a grafted tree form, it may require additional winter protection in colder areas compared with the traditional shrub form.

This is a tree-form Coral Knock Out® Rose, not a naturally occurring rose tree. The Coral Knock Out® Rose is grafted onto an upright trunk to create its distinctive tree-like appearance. Any shoots that emerge from the trunk or below the upper graft should be removed so the plant maintains its tree form.

Coral Knock Out® is known for its vibrant coral-orange flowers, but bloom color can vary with the weather. The flowers tend to show their most intense coral coloring in hot, humid conditions and may appear somewhat lighter under different temperatures.

PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Coral Knock Out® Rose Tree, scientifically known as Rosa 'Radral' PP19,803, brings the easy-care performance of a Knock Out® Rose into an elegant tree form. Vibrant coral-orange flowers cover the rounded canopy from spring through frost, creating months of color above a single upright trunk. Its compact tree form makes a striking accent for entryways, patios, garden beds, walkways, and decorative containers.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate. Reaches approximately 4–5 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide at maturity in tree form.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water your newly planted Coral Knock Out® Rose Tree when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry, typically about once or twice per week during establishment. Once established, water less frequently but provide supplemental water during extended periods of heat or drought. Avoid allowing the root zone to become excessively dry or remain consistently saturated. There is no fixed watering schedule, so always check the soil first and adjust based on climate, rainfall, temperature, sunlight exposure, soil type, drainage, and establishment phase.

Coral Knock Out® Rose Tree performs best in full sun with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. Plenty of sunlight encourages abundant flowers, dense canopy growth, and overall plant health.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING
Prune in early spring as new growth begins. Remove dead or damaged branches and lightly shape the rounded canopy as needed. Do not cut the main trunk or remove the grafted canopy from the top of the tree.

FERTILIZING
Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish. Once established, apply a balanced or rose fertilizer in spring or early summer if needed. Avoid fertilizing in fall or winter.

WINTER PROTECTION
Tree-form roses need more winter protection than shrub-form roses, particularly in colder climates. Apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch over the root zone, keeping it several inches away from the trunk, and protect the trunk and graft during severe winter weather. Container-grown Rose Trees should receive additional protection from freezing temperatures.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a location with full sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper than the root ball itself. Remove the nursery pot and gently loosen any tightly bound or circling roots. Position the Rose Tree so the top of the root ball sits level with or slightly above the surrounding soil, keeping the trunk and upper graft above the soil line. Backfill using only the native soil removed from the planting hole without adding compost, peat moss, sand, rock, or other amendments directly to the hole. Gently firm the soil and water slowly and deeply throughout the root ball and surrounding soil. Apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the root zone, keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk.

Because of its elevated canopy, staking may be beneficial after planting in windy or exposed locations until the root system becomes established.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 5-11

Coral Knock Out® Rose Tree grows best throughout USDA Zones 5–11, performing across a wide range of temperate and warm climates. It thrives in sunny locations and is especially well suited to areas with long growing seasons, where it can continue flowering until frost. It has excellent heat tolerance once established, but consistent moisture during periods of extreme heat helps maintain healthy growth and flowering. Because this is a grafted tree-form rose, the exposed trunk and graft are more vulnerable to winter cold than a traditional shrub-form Coral Knock Out® Rose, so extra winter protection may be needed near the colder end of its growing range.

Important: USDA Hardiness Zones only measure a plant's cold tolerance. They do not account for heat tolerance, humidity, rainfall, or other climate factors. Always consider your local growing conditions in addition to your USDA Zone when selecting plants.

Frequently Asked Questions

Coral Knock Out® Rose Tree typically reaches approximately 4–5 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide at maturity in tree form. Its exact finished height depends partly on the height of the trunk onto which the Coral Knock Out® canopy was grafted.

The flowering canopy has a moderate growth rate and can typically produce approximately 12–24 inches of new growth per year under favorable conditions. The trunk itself does not continue growing substantially taller like the trunk of a traditional tree; most new growth occurs within the grafted rose canopy.

Plant your Coral Knock Out® Rose Tree in full sun with well-draining soil and good air circulation. Its tree form makes it especially attractive near entryways, along walkways, in garden beds, on patios, or as a focal point in a decorative container.

Space Coral Knock Out® Rose Trees approximately 3–4 feet apart, center to center, or provide additional space if you want each tree to remain visually distinct.

Coral Knock Out® Rose Trees typically begin flowering in spring and continue producing repeated flushes of flowers through summer and fall until frost.

Coral Knock Out® produces vibrant coral-orange flowers. Color intensity can vary with temperature and weather, and the blooms are known for developing particularly vivid coloration in hot, humid conditions.

Coral Knock Out® Rose Tree is a tree-form rose created by grafting the flowering rose variety onto an upright trunk. It isn't a naturally tree-growing rose, but the grafting process creates the appearance of a miniature flowering tree with a rounded rose canopy.

Prune in early spring as new growth begins. Remove dead or damaged branches and lightly shape the flowering canopy. Avoid cutting the main trunk or damaging the graft where the rose canopy joins the trunk.

Yes. Coral Knock Out® was bred with the strong black spot resistance and overall disease resistance associated with The Knock Out® Rose family, making it much easier to maintain than many traditional roses.

Yes. Its compact tree form makes it an excellent choice for a large outdoor container on a patio, porch, or near an entryway. Use a container with adequate drainage and monitor moisture closely, since container-grown roses can dry out faster and their roots are more exposed to winter cold.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
