PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

The Blue Glow Agave, scientifically known as Agave ‘Blue Glow’, is a compact architectural succulent admired for its smooth blue-green foliage edged with subtle red and golden margins. This striking evergreen agave forms a symmetrical rosette shape that adds bold texture and modern elegance to xeriscapes, container gardens, and drought-tolerant landscapes. Blue Glow Agave is especially popular for its refined appearance, manageable size, and low-maintenance growth habit.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Slow to moderate-growing succulent. Typically reaches approximately 1-2 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water when the soil becomes mostly dry. Approximately once per week during establishment, then much less frequently once established. Blue Glow Agave is highly drought tolerant and prefers dry conditions over consistently moist soil. Watering frequency may vary based on climate, soil type, rainfall, and establishment phase.

Blue Glow Agave grows best in full sun to partial shade. In hotter climates, partial afternoon shade may help protect foliage from excessive heat stress.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Blue Glow Agave does not require pruning, but removing dead or damaged leaves as needed can help maintain its appearance.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a slow-release fertilizer in spring if desired, though Blue Glow Agave generally does not require frequent fertilization. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
While hardy, protect Blue Glow Agave from prolonged freezing temperatures, especially in colder zones. Mulch around the base to shield the roots during winter.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Plant Blue Glow Agave in an area with excellent drainage and full sun to partial shade exposure. Dig a hole slightly wider than the rootball and position the plant so the crown sits level with or slightly above the surrounding soil grade. Backfill with native soil and avoid overwatering during establishment. Mulch lightly around the base while keeping mulch away from the crown to reduce excess moisture buildup.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 8-11

Blue Glow Agave thrives in warm climates with excellent drainage and abundant sunlight. It performs especially well in dry, coastal, Mediterranean, and desert-inspired landscapes. In extremely hot inland climates, partial afternoon shade may help reduce stress during peak summer heat. This agave is more cold sensitive than some larger agave varieties and benefits from protection during prolonged freezing temperatures.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
