PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

The Amethyst Falls Wisteria Staked, known scientifically as Wisteria frutescens 'Amethyst Falls', is a captivating and less aggressive variety of wisteria. Celebrated for its stunning, fragrant lavender-blue flowers, this plant brings a cascading elegance to gardens and landscapes. Unlike its Asian counterparts, 'Amethyst Falls' blooms reliably each year and is a wonderful selection for gardeners desiring the charm of wisteria without the invasiveness. This variety thrives in a range of climates and is perfect for adding vertical interest on trellises, arbors, or walls.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate to fast grower, typically adding about 3-6 feet per year, reaching a mature height of 15-30 feet and a width of 5-10 feet.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

The Amethyst Falls Wisteria thrives in full sun exposure, receiving at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight per day. Water the vine deeply and consistently, ensuring that the soil remains evenly moist but not waterlogged. During hot and dry periods, increase watering frequency to prevent drought stress. Apply mulch around the base of the plant to conserve soil moisture and suppress weed growth.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Prune Amethyst Falls Wisteria in late winter or early spring while dormant to maintain shape and encourage flowering. Remove dead or damaged wood and cut back side shoots to 2–3 buds to control size and stimulate new growth.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring, following package instructions. Avoid over-fertilizing to prevent excessive foliage at the expense of blooms.

WINTER PROTECTION:
In zones 5–10, mulch around the base to insulate roots from freezing. For severe cold, consider covering or wrapping the vine with burlap for extra protection.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a location with full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Dig a hole as deep and twice as wide as the root ball. Plant the vine, backfill with soil, and water thoroughly. Provide a sturdy structure for support, like a trellis or arbor.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 5-9

Amethyst Falls Wisteria is suitable for USDA Zones 5-9. It is adaptable to a variety of soil conditions but thrives in well-drained, moist soils. This variety is more cold-hardy than its Asian counterparts and can withstand a range of environmental conditions, making it a versatile vine for many garden landscapes.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
