Its ability to grow both indoors and outdoors makes it a versatile addition to many plant collections.

  • Botanical name: Aloe barbadensis miller
  • Bloom time: Spring to summer
  • Evergreen succulent
  • Grown in the USA

SUNLIGHT:
Prefers full sun to partial sun.

WATER:
Water lightly and allow soil to dry completely between watering. Approximately every 2–3 weeks depending on climate.

IDEAL CLIMATE:
Hardy in USDA Zones 9–11. Aloe Vera thrives in warm climates with well-draining soil.

Note: Aloe Vera stores water in its leaves and prefers dry conditions, so overwatering is one of the most common causes of plant stress.

PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Aloe Vera, scientifically known as Aloe barbadensis miller, is a popular succulent known for its thick, fleshy leaves filled with soothing gel. Widely grown for both ornamental and practical uses, Aloe Vera is valued for its low-maintenance care and drought tolerance. This versatile plant grows well in containers or warm outdoor landscapes, making it a favorite for indoor plant collections, patios, and sunny garden beds.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate. Typically grows 12–24 inches tall and 12–24 inches wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water lightly and allow the soil to dry out completely between watering. Typically water every 2–3 weeks, depending on temperature, soil type, and humidity levels. Aloe Vera prefers dry conditions and should not sit in wet soil.

Aloe Vera grows best in bright sunlight, ideally full sun to partial sun, which helps maintain healthy growth.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Minimal pruning is needed. Remove older outer leaves or any damaged foliage as needed to maintain plant health and appearance.

FERTILIZING:
Feed lightly with a balanced succulent fertilizer once in spring or early summer if desired. Avoid overfertilizing. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Aloe Vera is sensitive to frost. In cooler climates, grow it in containers and move indoors during winter.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Plant Aloe Vera in well-draining soil or cactus mix. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball and position the plant so the base of the leaves sits just above the soil line. Backfill with soil and water lightly after planting. When growing in containers, choose pots with drainage holes to prevent excess moisture buildup.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 9-11

Aloe Vera grows best in USDA Zones 9–11 where winters remain mild. This succulent thrives in warm, dry climates and requires well-draining soil to prevent root rot. In cooler regions, Aloe Vera is commonly grown in containers so it can be moved indoors during cold weather. With proper sunlight and minimal watering, it can grow successfully both indoors and outdoors.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
