The Bonfire Patio Peach Tree (Prunus persica ‘Bonfire’) is a compact, ornamental dwarf peach that brings vibrant color and seasonal interest to patios, small gardens, and containers. This eye‑catching patio tree shows off double pink blossoms in early spring, lush burgundy foliage throughout the growing season, and small freestone peaches in summer. Its manageable size makes it perfect for containers or limited garden spaces while adding striking foliage and flowers.

  • Botanical name: Prunus persica ‘Bonfire’
  • Deciduous Dwarf Tree
  • Bloom time: Early Spring
  • Grown in the USA

SUNLIGHT:
Thrives in full sun (6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily) for best flowering and fruiting.

WATER:
Keep soil moist but not waterlogged, especially during the first year and dry periods.

LEVEL OF CARE: MODERATE
Requires regular watering, full sun, and seasonal pruning for structure and fruit production.

PET‑FRIENDLY?:
Generally safe around pets, but peach leaves and pits should not be ingested in quantity as with all fruit trees; keep pets from chewing on foliage and fruit

Note: Bonfire Patio Peach trees stay compact at around 4–6 ft tall and wide, making them ideal for small gardens or container culture without overwhelming space.

This ornamental peach has dark burgundy foliage that holds color all season, and early spring blooms that attract bees — but its fruit, while edible, is often better used for pies, canning, or preserves rather than eating raw.

*We cannot guarantee the Bonfire Patio Peach Tree you receive will already be bearing fruit. This depends on the season and the overall growth pattern.

PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

The Bonfire Patio Peach Tree, also known as Prunus persica ‘Bonfire’, is a stunning dwarf ornamental tree with deep burgundy foliage and vibrant double pink blooms in early spring. Ideal for small gardens, patios, or container planting, this compact tree offers year-round visual appeal and even produces small edible peaches in summer.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate; matures to approximately 4–6 feet tall and wide, making it perfect for patios, containers, or tight spaces.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, water deeply when the top 2–3 inches of soil are dry. Avoid overwatering or letting the soil stay soggy. The Bonfire Patio Peach Tree thrives in full sun, requiring at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day for best foliage color, flower production, and fruiting.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Prune in late winter to early spring before new growth appears. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches to maintain shape and airflow. You can lightly prune after flowering to encourage compact growth, especially in containers.

FERTILIZING:
Feed in early spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer formulated for fruit trees or flowering ornamentals. A second light feeding in midsummer may support foliage and flower health if the tree is in a container.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Generally hardy in Zones 5–9. In colder regions or during harsh winters, mulch around the base to protect roots. Container-grown trees should be protected from prolonged freezes or moved to a sheltered location.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Select a location with full sun and well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Position the tree so that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Backfill with native soil, gently firming it around the roots, and water thoroughly. Apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base (keeping it away from the trunk) to help retain moisture and regulate temperature. For container planting, choose a large pot with drainage holes and use a well-draining potting mix.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 5-9

The Bonfire Patio Peach Tree is cold-hardy and heat-tolerant, thriving in USDA Zones 5 through 9. It’s an excellent choice for northern and southern climates alike, provided it receives full sun and well-draining soil. In cooler zones, it can handle winter temperatures with ease, while in warmer zones, it thrives with a bit of afternoon shade. Its compact size and showy appearance make it a favorite for urban gardeners, container growers, and those with limited landscape space.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Bonfire Patio Peach Tree grows to a compact 4–6 feet tall and wide, making it perfect for patios, balconies, and small-space gardens.

This dwarf peach tree has a moderate growth rate, typically reaching its mature size within 3 to 5 years under optimal sunlight and care.

Plant it in a location with full sun and well-draining soil. It thrives in containers, raised beds, or sunny borders, and performs well in both in-ground and patio planters.

Yes! It produces small freestone peaches in summer. The fruit is edible, though it’s best used for baking, preserves, or canning rather than fresh eating due to its firm texture.

Expect vibrant double pink blossoms in early spring, often before the leaves emerge. The blooms attract pollinators and provide a stunning early-season display.

Its foliage is a striking deep burgundy to purple and green, holding its color from spring through fall. This rich leaf color adds season-long ornamental interest.

Yes, it’s hardy in USDA Zones 5–9. In colder zones, protect container-grown trees from harsh winter conditions by moving them to a sheltered spot.

Yes, the Bonfire Patio Peach Tree is perfect for container growing thanks to its naturally compact size and shallow root system. Choose a container that is at least 18–24 inches wide and deep, with good drainage holes at the bottom. This gives the roots plenty of room to grow and helps prevent rootbound stress. Use a high-quality, well-draining potting mix (not garden soil), and place the container in a full sun location. Water regularly, as containers dry out faster than in-ground plantings — especially during summer. Re-pot every 2–3 years or refresh the top few inches of soil annually to keep nutrients balanced. In colder zones, containers can be moved to a sheltered area during winter to protect roots from freeze damage.

Yes, the Bonfire Peach Tree is self-fertile, meaning it does not require another peach tree for pollination in order to produce fruit. You’ll still get peaches with just one tree, although having other flowering fruit trees nearby can sometimes enhance yield.

No, you only need one Bonfire Patio Peach Tree to enjoy fruit. It produces on its own thanks to its self-pollinating nature, making it a great choice for small spaces, patios, and container gardens where planting multiple trees isn’t practical.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
