Note: Green Tower Boxwood maintains its columnar shape with minimal pruning but may benefit from occasional trimming to ensure a neat appearance. Protect from extreme winter conditions if located in colder zones.

PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

The Green Tower® Boxwood, scientifically recognized as Buxus sempervirens, is a standout evergreen that adds structured elegance to any garden or landscape. This plant is prized for its tall, narrow form and deep green, dense foliage that remains vibrant throughout the year. With proper attention, the Green Tower® Boxwood offers a durable and versatile presence in a multitude of climates, making it a prime choice for garden enthusiasts desiring a touch of perennial sophistication in their outdoor spaces.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate; reaches a mature height of 9 feet tall and width of 1 to 2 feet.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

The versatile Green Tower® Boxwood thrives in an array of light conditions, from the radiant glow of full sun to the softer illumination of partial shade. When it comes to moisture, it's crucial to strike a balance. Regular watering ensures a strong start for new plants, but once established, it's essential to let the soil dry out a bit between watering sessions to promote root health.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Prune Green Tower Boxwood in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Minimal pruning is needed unless shaping is desired, as it naturally grows in a columnar form.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a general-purpose, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth and maintain vibrant foliage.

WINTER PROTECTION:
In colder zones, consider using an anti-desiccant spray to reduce moisture loss. Mulch around the base to help insulate roots against extreme cold.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a site with well-draining soil, taking into consideration the plant's sunlight preferences. Amend the soil with organic compost to boost fertility. Dig a hole twice as wide as the plant's root ball but no deeper. Position the boxwood so that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Fill the hole with the amended soil, gently packing it around the roots to eliminate air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting. If planting multiple boxwoods, space them at least 2 feet apart to accommodate their mature width. Applying a 2-inch layer of mulch around the base will help retain soil moisture and regulate temperature.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 5-9

The Green Tower® Boxwood exhibits a robust adaptability across a spectrum of climates, from temperate to warmer zones. Its resilience is seen in its ability to maintain its lush greenness irrespective of seasonal changes. Ideally suited for both stand-alone feature placements and as part of a hedge or border, this Boxwood brings year-round structure and beauty to gardens.

Frequently Asked Questions

Green Tower Boxwood typically grows about 7–9 feet tall and only 1–2 feet wide. It has a naturally narrow, columnar shape, making it ideal for tight spaces and vertical accents.

Green Tower Boxwoods are slow growers, typically adding about 4 to 6 inches per year under ideal conditions.

Plant Green Tower Boxwood in full sun to partial shade with well-draining soil. It adapts to a wide range of soil types and performs best in locations with good airflow and consistent drainage.

Yes, Green Tower Boxwood is an evergreen shrub that maintains its rich green color throughout the year, even in winter.

Water regularly during the first year to establish roots. Once established, water deeply but less frequently, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid consistently wet soil, as this can lead to root issues.

Green Tower Boxwood naturally maintains its narrow shape and requires minimal pruning. Light trimming in late winter or early spring can help maintain a clean, formal look if desired.

Its tall, narrow, and dense growth habit makes Green Tower Boxwood an excellent choice for privacy screens, especially in tight spaces where width is limited.

Avoid planting in poorly draining or soggy soil, as boxwoods are sensitive to root rot. Also avoid overly shaded areas, which can reduce density and overall plant health.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
