PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Autumn Jewel® Azalea, scientifically known as Rhododendron hybrid 'Robleu', is a spectacular evergreen shrub perfect for year-round interest. With its luscious, deep pink blooms and deep green foliage, this azalea variety stands out in any garden setting. Adaptable to a variety of climates and featuring blooms from spring through fall, this azalea is the go-to choice for gardeners desiring continuous color and minimal upkeep.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate, maturing to a height and width of 3-5 feet.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

To get the best out of your Autumn Jewel® Azalea, place it in a location that gets partial to full sunlight. Morning sun with afternoon shade is often ideal for optimal blooming. Consistent watering is key; aim to keep the soil moist by watering deeply once a week, increasing frequency during prolonged dry periods.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Lightly prune Autumn Jewel Azalea after flowering to shape the plant and encourage new growth.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a slow-release, acid-forming fertilizer in early spring to support healthy foliage and abundant blooms.

WINTER PROTECTION:
In colder climates, mulch around the base to provide extra insulation for the roots during winter.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a location that receives partial to full sunlight and has well-drained, acidic soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper. Amend the soil with acidic organic matter like peat moss if needed. Place the plant in the hole so that the top of the root ball is level with the ground surface. Fill the hole with soil, press down firmly to eliminate air pockets, and water thoroughly. If planting multiple azaleas, space them 4-6 feet apart. Finish by adding a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base to help retain soil moisture.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 6-9

The Autumn Jewel® Azalea is highly adaptable, thriving in USDA Zones 6-9. It prefers well-drained, acidic soil but is tolerant of different soil types. While it can endure colder climates, additional protection may be needed in the northern limits of its hardiness zone.

Autumn Jewel Azalea does best with 3–6 hours of sunlight daily, preferably morning sun. Too much direct afternoon sun can stress the plant and damage foliage.

Lack of blooms is often caused by too much shade, improper pruning timing, or over-fertilizing. Pruning after buds have formed can remove future blooms, so it’s best to prune right after the spring flowering cycle.

Yes, Autumn Jewel Azaleas require acidic soil with a pH of about 4.5–6.0. Proper soil conditions help support healthy growth, vibrant foliage, and consistent blooming.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
