PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Ombrella Mimosa Tree, scientifically known as Albizia julibrissin ‘Boubri’, is a unique ornamental tree known for its elegant umbrella-shaped canopy and soft, fern-like foliage. This improved mimosa variety produces fluffy, powder-puff pink flowers in summer and is prized for its graceful structure and fast growth. With better disease resistance than older mimosa varieties, the Ombrella Mimosa Tree is a beautiful choice for adding filtered shade and tropical texture to residential landscapes.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Fast growth rate. Typically grow 2–3 feet per year and reach 20–25 feet tall and 20–30 feet wide at maturity, forming a broad, umbrella-like canopy.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply once per week during the first growing season to establish the root system. Once established, Ombrella Mimosa Trees are drought tolerant and typically only need occasional watering during extended dry periods. Watering needs vary depending on soil conditions, rainfall, and local climate.

Ombrella Mimosa Trees grow best in full sun, which supports strong flowering and canopy development.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Prune in late winter to early spring to maintain shape and remove any damaged or overly dense branches. This helps preserve the tree’s structural integrity and aesthetic form.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth and vibrant flowering.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Generally hardy in its specified zones, but mulching around the base can help protect the roots in the colder parts of its range.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a planting location with full sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole two to three times wider than the root ball and about the same depth as the container so the tree sits at the same level it was growing previously. Place the tree in the hole, backfill with soil, and gently firm the soil to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting. Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base of the tree to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch a few inches away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 6-9

Ombrella Mimosa Trees grow well in USDA Zones 6–9 and thrive in warm climates with full sun. This variety was developed for improved resistance to common mimosa diseases and performs well in a variety of soil types. It tolerates heat and drought once established, making it a good option for many southern and temperate regions.

Plant trees about 20–30 feet apart to allow room for their mature spread.

The tree typically blooms for several weeks during the summer, depending on growing conditions.

Yes. Once established, it is drought tolerant and can handle periods of dry weather.

Ombrella Mimosa Trees can drop spent flowers and seed pods, especially after the blooming season. While the debris is generally light and easy to clean, it’s something to consider if planting near patios, driveways, or pools. Many homeowners find the beauty and shade outweigh the minor cleanup.

It can work in medium-sized yards, but may feel large in very small spaces due to its wide 20–30 ft canopy spread. If you’re looking for filtered shade and a statement tree, it’s a great fit—just be sure to allow enough room for its mature width.

Ombrella Mimosa Trees have a moderate, spreading root system that is not typically considered invasive, but like most fast-growing trees, they should be planted with proper spacing. For best results, plant at least 15–20 feet away from foundations, driveways, and walkways to allow healthy root development and prevent potential issues as the tree matures.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
