PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Greenspire® Linden Tree, scientifically known as Tilia cordata ‘Greenspire’, is a classic shade tree known for its symmetrical pyramidal shape, dense green foliage, and fragrant summer flowers. This cultivar of Littleleaf Linden is widely planted in streetscapes and landscapes because of its uniform growth and adaptability. In summer, clusters of pale yellow flowers appear and attract pollinators, while the heart-shaped leaves turn golden-yellow in fall, providing beautiful seasonal interest.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate. Typically grows 1–2 feet per year and reaches 40–50 feet tall and 30–35 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply once per week during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, Greenspire® Linden is moderately drought tolerant but benefits from occasional watering during extended dry periods. Watering needs will vary depending on soil conditions, rainfall, and local climate.

Greenspire® Linden grows best in full sun, though it can tolerate partial sun. Adequate sunlight encourages dense canopy growth and healthy flowering.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Prune Greenspire® Linden in late winter or early spring while the tree is dormant. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches to maintain structure. The tree naturally develops a uniform shape and usually requires minimal pruning.

FERTILIZING:
Most established Linden trees do not require regular fertilization. If soil is poor, apply a balanced slow-release tree fertilizer in early spring to support healthy growth.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Greenspire® Linden is very cold hardy and typically requires no special winter protection within its recommended zones. Applying mulch around the base of young trees can help protect roots and maintain soil moisture.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a planting location with full sun to partial sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole two to three times wider than the root ball and about the same depth as the container so the tree sits at the same level it was growing in the nursery pot. Place the tree in the hole, backfill with soil, and gently firm the soil to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting. Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base of the tree to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch a few inches away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 3-7

Greenspire® Linden grows well in USDA Zones 3–7 and is especially well suited for cooler and temperate climates. This hardy shade tree tolerates cold winters and adapts well to urban environments. It grows best in full sun with well-draining soil but can tolerate a variety of soil conditions. With proper care, it develops into a large, stately shade tree that provides cooling canopy cover and seasonal interest.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
