PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Globe Willow Tree, botanically known as Salix matsudana ‘Navajo’, is a fast-growing shade tree valued for its dense, rounded canopy and graceful green foliage. This hardy willow forms a naturally globe-shaped crown that provides excellent shade and visual interest in larger landscapes. Its rapid growth and adaptability make it a popular choice for homeowners seeking a quick shade tree for open yards and naturalized areas.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Fast growth rate; typically reaches 40–50 feet tall and 30–50 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, water when the soil begins to dry, typically every 7–10 days depending on your local climate and weather. Globe Willow grows best in full sun where it receives at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. Full sunlight supports faster growth and helps maintain a dense canopy.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Minimal pruning is required. Occasional pruning can help maintain the tree’s rounded canopy and remove dead or damaged branches.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring if needed to encourage healthy growth.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Globe Willow Trees are cold hardy and generally require no winter protection once established.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and about the same depth. Place the tree so the top of the root ball sits level with the surrounding soil. Backfill with soil and water thoroughly to settle the roots. Add a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base of the tree to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch a few inches away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 4-9

Globe Willow Trees grow well across a wide range of climates, from colder northern regions to warmer temperate areas. They thrive in USDA Zones 4–9 and perform best in full sun with moist, well-draining soil. This tree adapts to many soil conditions and grows quickly in areas with adequate water. Because of its rapid growth and broad canopy, it is best suited for larger yards and open landscapes.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
