  • Deciduous
  • Grown in the USA

SUNLIGHT:
Prefers full sun with 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.

WATER:
Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of soil become dry, typically about 1–2 times per week, depending on climate, rainfall, and soil conditions.

IDEAL CLIMATE:
Hardy in USDA Zones 5–10. This English shrub rose grows best in sunny locations with well-draining soil and moderate temperatures. It performs well in most regions across the United States with consistent watering and seasonal pruning.

Note: Like many English shrub roses, the Scepter’d Isle™ Rose may take a growing season to fully establish and reach peak bloom production. Deadheading spent flowers can help encourage repeat blooming throughout the growing season.

PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Scepter’d Isle™ Rose, scientifically known as Rosa ‘Ausland’, is a graceful David Austin® English shrub rose admired for its soft shell-pink blooms and strong myrrh fragrance. The elegant flowers open to reveal delicate petals surrounding a cluster of golden stamens, creating a classic old-world rose appearance. With reliable repeat blooming and a naturally upright, bushy habit, the Scepter’d Isle™ rose shrub is an excellent choice for cottage gardens, rose borders, and landscape plantings where fragrance and timeless English garden beauty are desired.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate. Typically reaches 4–5 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide at maturity, forming a dense, rounded shrub with upright stems and lush foliage.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply about 1–2 times per week during the growing season, allowing the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry slightly between watering. Roses generally require around 1–2 inches of water per week, though watering needs vary depending on grow zone, local climate, soil type, rainfall, and temperature.

Scepter’d Isle™ roses perform best in full sun locations receiving at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily, which supports healthy growth and frequent flowering.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Prune Scepter’d Isle™ Rose in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove dead, weak, or crossing branches and lightly shape the plant to maintain an open structure. Deadheading spent flowers during the growing season can encourage additional flushes of blooms.

FERTILIZING:
Feed with a balanced organic rose fertilizer or slow-release fertilizer designed for flowering shrubs in early spring as new growth begins. A second feeding after the first flush of blooms can help promote continued flowering throughout the season.

WINTER PROTECTION:
In colder regions (Zones 5–6), apply 2–4 inches of mulch around the base of the plant in late fall to insulate the root system. In areas with harsh winters, lightly mound soil or mulch around the crown to protect it from freeze damage.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a planting location with full sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and about the same depth as the nursery container so the plant sits at the same level it was previously growing. Place the rose in the hole, backfill with soil, and gently firm the soil around the roots. Water thoroughly after planting to help settle the soil. Apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base of the plant to conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch a few inches away from the stems.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 5-10

The Scepter’d Isle™ English rose grows well in USDA Zones 5–10, making it adaptable to many regions across the United States. In cooler climates such as Zones 5–6, applying mulch in winter can help protect the crown from severe cold. In warmer climates like Zones 8–10, this shrub rose often produces a longer bloom season and may flower repeatedly through the growing season. Well-draining soil, consistent watering, and full sun help ensure strong growth and flowering in all zones.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
