PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Lipstick Hibiscus Shrub, scientifically known as Hibiscus ‘Lipstick’, is a vibrant tropical plant known for its bold pink blooms with a striking central column. This compact hibiscus produces eye-catching flowers, making it a standout in patios, containers, and warm-climate landscapes. With its long bloom season and lush green foliage, the Lipstick Hibiscus adds a tropical feel and continuous color to outdoor spaces.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate. Lipstick Hibiscus typically grows 1–2 feet per year and reaches 5–8 feet tall and 5–8 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply 1–2 times per week, keeping the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Hibiscus prefers regular watering, especially during hot weather. Watering frequency will vary depending on climate, container vs. in-ground planting, and weather conditions.

Lipstick Hibiscus grows best in full sun to partial sun, with more sunlight encouraging more frequent blooms.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Prune lightly in early spring to shape the plant and encourage fuller growth. You can also trim throughout the growing season to maintain size and promote additional blooms.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced or bloom-boosting fertilizer during the growing season to support continuous flowering. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Lipstick Hibiscus is sensitive to cold and should be protected from temperatures below 40°F. In cooler climates, grow in containers and bring indoors during winter.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a planting location with full sun to partial sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and about the same depth as the container. Place the plant in the hole, backfill with soil, and gently firm to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting. Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 9-11

Lipstick Hibiscus grows best in USDA Zones 9–11 and thrives in warm, tropical to subtropical climates. It prefers consistent warmth, sunlight, and well-draining soil. In cooler regions, it is commonly grown in containers and brought indoors during colder months. This plant performs best where temperatures remain above freezing.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
