PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

The Miss Kim Lilac Shrub is a compact, cold-hardy lilac variety known for its fragrant lavender-purple blooms and improved heat tolerance. Blooming in late spring, this dwarf lilac produces highly aromatic flower clusters while maintaining a tidy, rounded form. With excellent mildew resistance and attractive burgundy fall foliage, the Miss Kim Lilac Shrub delivers multi-season interest in smaller landscapes.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Slow to moderate growth rate; reaches a mature height of 4–6 ft and mature width of 4–6 ft

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply once per week during the first growing season. After establishment, water during extended dry periods. Miss Kim Lilac prefers evenly moist soil but tolerates short dry spells once mature. Plant in full sun for the best bloom production and strongest fragrance. At least 6 hours of direct sunlight is recommended.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Prune immediately after flowering to shape and remove spent blooms. Avoid late-season pruning, as lilacs bloom on old wood.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring if needed. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can reduce flowering.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Extremely cold hardy and does not require winter protection in most climates. Mulch around the base to protect roots and conserve moisture.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and plant at the same depth as the container. Loosen roots gently, backfill with native soil, and water thoroughly. Apply mulch around the base to conserve moisture, keeping mulch a few inches away from the stems. Continue weekly watering during the first growing season to establish a strong root system.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 3-8

Miss Kim Lilac performs well in cold northern climates and is more heat tolerant than common lilac varieties. It thrives in regions with cold winters and full sun exposure. Proper air circulation and well-draining soil help maintain healthy foliage, especially in warmer or more humid climates. This variety adapts well to both northern and moderate southern zones.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
