PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

This tropical conversation piece produces small, edible red pineapple fruit and brings bold color and texture to patios, containers, and tropical garden beds. Easy to grow in full sun, ‘Mila’ adds year-round interest with dramatic foliage and seasonal fruit.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply but infrequently; allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Established plants are water-wise and prefer low to moderate moisture. The ‘Mila’ Pineapple Plant requires full sun to develop its best foliage color and support fruit production. At least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily is ideal.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
No pruning required. Simply remove old or damaged leaves as needed to maintain appearance.

FERTILIZING:
Fertilize once a year in early spring with a balanced fertilizer to support growth and fruiting. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
In cooler climates outside of its hardy zones, protect with frost cloth or grow in containers that can be moved indoors during frost or freezing temperatures.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Prepare the planting site by watering the root ball before planting. Dig a hole twice as wide as the pot and place the plant 1–2″ above surrounding soil level. Backfill with soil and water deeply to settle. Apply a 1–2″ layer of mulch around the base, avoiding contact with the stem to prevent moisture buildup and rot.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 8-10

The ‘Mila’ Pineapple Plant thrives in warm climates with consistent sunlight and minimal frost. It is hardy in USDA Zones 8–10, making it well suited for coastal, tropical, and subtropical landscapes. In cooler regions, it performs beautifully in containers that can be brought indoors or protected during cold snaps. Full sun and well-drained soil enhance leaf coloration and overall plant vigor.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
