PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Purple Trailing Lantana, botanically known as Lantana montevidensis, is a low-growing, spreading flowering plant prized for its vibrant purple blooms and exceptional heat tolerance. This fast-spreading perennial is commonly used as ground cover, in hanging baskets, or cascading over walls and containers. With a long bloom season and minimal water needs once established, Purple Lantana is a reliable choice for warm-climate landscapes.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Fast growth rate; typically grows 12–18 inches tall and spreads 4–6 feet wide.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water regularly during establishment; once established, water every 10–14 days, allowing soil to dry between waterings. Purple Trailing Lantana requires full sun to bloom heavily and maintain compact growth. At least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily is ideal.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Light pruning or trimming throughout the growing season helps encourage fuller growth and continuous flowering. In warmer climates, cut back lightly in late winter or early spring to refresh growth.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring. Avoid excessive fertilization, which can reduce flowering.

WINTER PROTECTION:
In colder areas, Purple Trailing Lantana may die back after frost. Mulch can help protect roots, and plants typically regrow in spring in warmer zones.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and plant at the same depth as it was growing in the container. Backfill with well-draining soil and water thoroughly after planting. Space plants adequately to allow for spreading, and apply mulch lightly to retain moisture without smothering the plant.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 8-11

Purple Trailing Lantana thrives in warm climates with hot summers and mild winters. It performs best in regions with full sun and well-draining soil and is commonly grown as a perennial in southern zones. In cooler climates, it may behave as an annual or die back in winter and return in spring. Its adaptability makes it especially popular in coastal, desert, and urban landscapes.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
