PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Pink Double Knock Out® Rose Tree, scientifically known as Rosa ‘Radcon’ (tree form), is an elegant, disease-resistant rose variety shaped into a small tree. Celebrated for its profusion of lush, double pink blooms from spring until frost, this ornamental rose requires minimal care while providing continuous color. With proper sunlight, moderate watering, and occasional fertilization, the Pink Double Knock Out® Rose Tree brightens any landscape as a striking focal point or accent plant.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate; it typically reaches a mature height of 3 to 5 feet and a width of 3 to 4 feet under ideal growing conditions.

Sizing: Our patio rose trees are primarily utilized as outdoor patio plants and are potted. Accordingly, we measure our rose trees from the bottom of the pot to the top of the tree for accuracy.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season to help establish a robust root system. Once established, the Pink Double Knock Out® Rose Tree is relatively drought-tolerant but performs best with consistent moisture. Ensure the soil drains well to prevent waterlogging and possible root rot. Pink Double Knock Out® Rose Tree requires at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily to maximize bloom production and maintain healthy, disease-resistant foliage.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring, removing dead or damaged branches and lightly shaping the canopy to maintain its attractive form. A light trim after each flush of blooms can encourage re-blooming and tidier growth.

Fertilization: Use a balanced or rose-specific fertilizer in early spring, and again in midsummer if needed. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations to support continuous flowering without overstimulating leaf growth at the expense of blooms.

Winter Protection: In cooler zones (5 and below), apply mulch around the base to insulate roots, and consider protective measures for the graft union if harsh freezes are expected. Container-grown roses can be moved to a sheltered spot or garage.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Select a location with rich, well-drained soil and at least 6 hours of daily sunlight. Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as the root ball and equally deep. Position the tree so the graft union is slightly above the soil line, then backfill, gently tamping the soil to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly to settle the soil, and apply a layer of mulch around the base, keeping it a few inches away from the trunk to prevent rot. During the first growing season, maintain a consistent watering schedule to promote healthy root establishment.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 5-9

This rose variety performs best in USDA Hardiness Zones 5 through 9, where winters are sufficiently cold to encourage dormancy, and summers offer the warmth needed for continuous flowering. In these regions, Pink Double Knock Out® Rose Trees benefit from their strong disease resistance and capacity to re-bloom. Gardeners in colder areas may need to provide winter protection, especially around the graft union.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Pink Double Knock Out® Rose Tree typically reaches 3 to 5 feet tall and about 3 to 4 feet wide. Its tree form has an upright trunk topped with a rounded canopy of lush, double pink blooms.

Perfect for small gardens, containers, and accent plantings.

The Pink Double Knock Out® Rose Tree has a moderate growth rate, adding about 12 to 18 inches per year under good conditions. With regular care, it will reach its mature size in 2 to 3 years.

The best place to plant a Pink Double Knock Out® Rose Tree is in a sunny, well-drained spot where it has room to grow and shine. Here’s what to look for:

Full sun: Choose a location that gets at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. This ensures strong blooming and healthy growth.

Well-draining soil: Avoid low spots or areas where water tends to pool—roses don’t like “wet feet.” Amend heavy clay soils with compost to improve drainage.

Good air circulation: Plant where there’s open space around the canopy to help prevent fungal issues. Avoid overcrowding with other shrubs or structures.

Away from foot traffic: Since rose trees have thorns, give them a little space away from walkways, play areas, or narrow paths.

Ideal planting spots include garden beds, entryways, patios, or as a focal point in landscape borders. If you’re using a container, place it in a sunny, sheltered location where you can enjoy the blooms up close.

You can plant the Pink Double Knock Out® Rose Tree in either a pot or in the ground, depending on your space and climate—but each option has its pros and considerations:

In the ground:
• Best for long-term growth—roots have more space to spread out.
• Performs best in full sun with well-draining soil.
• Ideal if you live in Zones 5–10, where it’s hardy year-round.
• Less frequent watering once established.

In a pot:
• Great for patios, decks, or small spaces.
• Choose a large container (at least 16–20 inches wide and deep) with good drainage.
• Needs more frequent watering and feeding, especially in hot weather.
• Easier to move or protect in winter if you’re in a colder zone.

If you’re in a colder climate (Zone 5 or borderline 6) and want the flexibility to move the plant indoors or to a sheltered area, a pot may be the better option. Otherwise, planting in the ground offers more stability and less maintenance long-term.

It starts blooming in late spring and continues to bloom repeatedly through fall, often until the first frost.

The blooms are fully double, rich pink roses that stand out in the landscape and require no deadheading to keep flowering.

Sunlight: Needs 6+ hours of full sun daily.

Watering: Water deeply once or twice a week, allowing the top 2–3 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Increase in hot weather.

Soil: Prefers well-draining, slightly acidic soil.

Fertilizing: Use a balanced rose fertilizer in early spring and every 4–6 weeks through midsummer if needed.

Pruning: Prune back the canopy by one-third in late winter/early spring and remove any deadwood.

Mulching: Add 2–3 inches of mulch to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Pests/Disease: Generally resistant to black spot and powdery mildew, but ensure good air circulation and avoid overhead watering.

Winter Care: Protect the graft and roots with mulch and insulation in cold climates or when grown in pots.

Yes. Prune in late winter or early spring, before new growth begins:

• Cut back the canopy by about one-third to encourage fresh growth and blooms.
• Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches.
• Light shaping can be done throughout the season as needed.

Avoid cutting into the main trunk and always use clean, sharp tools.

Yes, especially if you’re in Zone 5 or 6 or if the tree is in a container.

In-ground: Apply 3–4 inches of mulch around the base (not against the trunk), and wrap the grafted trunk with burlap or frost cloth for added protection.

In containers: Move the pot to a sheltered location like a garage or wrap it with insulating materials. Water occasionally through winter to prevent the soil from drying out completely.

Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer made for roses, with an N-P-K ratio around 10-10-10 or 12-6-10.

- Apply in early spring as new growth begins.

- You can supplement with a liquid or water-soluble fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season.

- Organic options like compost, alfalfa meal, or fish emulsion also work well.

Always water after feeding and avoid over-fertilizing, which can lead to excess foliage and fewer blooms.

Choose a large pot at least 16–20 inches wide and 16–18 inches deep. This gives the roots enough room to grow and keeps the tree stable. Make sure the pot has drainage holes, and use a well-draining potting mix formulated for roses or flowering shrubs.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
