PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Slash Pine Tree, botanically known as Pinus elliottii, is a fast-growing evergreen tree native to the southeastern United States. Known for its tall, straight form and long glossy needles, this pine creates an attractive natural canopy and provides year-round greenery in large landscapes. Its rapid growth and adaptability to sandy soils make it a popular choice for windbreaks, shade, and naturalized landscapes.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Fast growth rate; typically reaches 75–100 feet tall and 35–50 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, water when the soil begins to dry, typically every 7–14 days depending on your local climate and weather. Slash Pine grows best in full sun where it receives at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. Strong sunlight supports faster growth and healthy evergreen foliage.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Slash Pine generally requires little to no pruning. Dead or damaged branches can be removed if necessary.

FERTILIZING:
Fertilization is rarely required for established trees, but a balanced fertilizer can be applied in early spring if soil nutrients are low.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Slash Pine is cold hardy within its recommended zones and typically does not require winter protection once established.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and about the same depth. Place the tree so the top of the root ball sits level with the surrounding soil. Backfill with soil and water thoroughly to help settle the roots. Apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base of the tree to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch a few inches away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 7-10

Slash Pine grows best in warm, humid climates commonly found in the southeastern United States. It thrives in USDA Zones 7–10 where summers are warm and winters are relatively mild. The tree naturally grows in sandy soils and flatwood regions and is well adapted to areas with high humidity and seasonal rainfall. Once established, it can tolerate a variety of soil conditions as long as drainage is adequate.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
