IDEAL CLIMATE:

PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Autumn Gold Ginkgo, scientifically known as Ginkgo biloba ‘Autumn Gold’, is a classic ornamental shade tree known for its fan-shaped leaves and brilliant golden fall color. This male, seedless variety is prized for its clean growth habit, strong structure, and low maintenance. With excellent tolerance to urban conditions, heat, and pollution, the Autumn Gold Ginkgo is a long-lived, dependable tree that adds beauty and shade to residential landscapes.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate. Autumn Gold Ginkgo typically grows 1–2 feet per year and reaches 40–50 feet tall and 25–35 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply once per week during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, Ginkgo trees are moderately drought tolerant and typically only need supplemental watering during extended dry periods. Watering needs vary depending on climate, soil type, and rainfall.

Autumn Gold Ginkgo grows best in full sun, which promotes healthy growth and vibrant fall color.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Autumn Gold Ginkgo generally doesn’t require regular pruning, but remove any dead or damaged branches in late winter or early spring.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a slow-release, balanced fertilizer in early spring and again in mid-summer to support healthy growth. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
In colder climates, mulch around the base to protect roots, wrap the trunk with burlap if needed.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a planting location with full sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole two to three times wider than the root ball and about the same depth as the container. Place the tree in the hole, backfill with soil, and gently firm to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting. Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch a few inches away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 3-9

Autumn Gold Ginkgo grows well in USDA Zones 3–9 and is extremely adaptable to a wide range of climates. It tolerates cold winters, hot summers, and urban conditions, making it suitable for many regions across the U.S. This tree performs best in full sun and well-draining soil but is known for its ability to adapt to less-than-ideal conditions.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
