Planting instructions
Choose a location in full sun with well-draining soil. Dig a hole about twice as wide as the root ball and the same depth as the container. Set the plant at the same level it was growing, backfill, and water thoroughly. For groundcover, space plants about 2–3 feet apart. In containers and baskets, use a well-draining potting mix and a pot with drainage holes.
Watering & sunlight
Water newly planted lantana when the top 1–2 inches of soil begin to dry, typically once or twice per week during the first few weeks and more often during hot, dry, or windy weather. Water deeply at the base so moisture reaches the whole root ball. Once established, White Trailing Lantana is drought tolerant and usually needs water only during extended dry spells. Avoid soggy soil. Plants in containers and hanging baskets dry out faster and need more frequent watering. There is no fixed watering schedule, so always check the soil first.

White Trailing Lantana needs full sun, at least 6 hours of direct sun each day, to bloom heavily.
Care guide

PRUNING:
No deadheading needed. In early spring as new growth emerges, cut back dead or frost-damaged stems. Trim trailing stems anytime to keep it in bounds.

FERTILIZING:
Usually unnecessary in the ground; too much fertilizer can reduce flowering. Container plants benefit from a light slow-release fertilizer in spring. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
In Zone 8, apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch over the roots in late fall to help them survive hard freezes.

Answered by Simply Trees plant experts
How big does White Trailing Lantana get?
White Trailing Lantana stays low at about 1–1.5 feet tall while its stems trail 3–5 feet wide, making it a great flowering groundcover.
How fast does White Trailing Lantana grow?
It has a fast growth rate, quickly spreading its trailing stems to cover ground and spill over walls and container edges.
Where is the best place to plant White Trailing Lantana?
Plant it in full sun, with at least 6 hours of direct sun each day, and well-draining soil. It's ideal as a flowering groundcover, cascading over walls and slopes, or in hanging baskets, window boxes, and containers.
How far apart should I plant White Trailing Lantana?
For groundcover, space plants about 2–3 feet apart so the trailing stems can knit together into a continuous carpet of blooms.
Will White Trailing Lantana come back every year?
In USDA Zones 8–11 it is perennial. In Zone 8, frost may kill the top growth in winter, but plants usually regrow from the roots in spring. In colder zones, enjoy it as a long-blooming summer annual.
When does White Trailing Lantana bloom?
It blooms from spring until frost with rounded clusters of white flowers with soft yellow eyes. No deadheading is needed to keep it flowering.
Does White Trailing Lantana attract butterflies?
Yes. Its long-lasting flower clusters draw butterflies all season, making it a great addition to pollinator gardens.
Is White Trailing Lantana drought tolerant?
Yes. It loves heat and is drought tolerant once established, usually needing water only during extended dry spells. Water regularly while it establishes, and note that container and basket plants dry out faster.
Is White Trailing Lantana toxic to pets?
Yes. Lantana leaves and berries are toxic if eaten by people, pets, or livestock. Plant it where children and animals won't chew on it.
Can White Trailing Lantana grow in hanging baskets and containers?
Yes. Its trailing stems spill beautifully over the edges of hanging baskets, window boxes, and containers. Use a well-draining potting mix and a pot with drainage holes, and water more often than in-ground plantings.
