White Chiffon® Hibiscus Tree is an elegant flowering ornamental tree admired for its large, double white blooms that appear from midsummer through fall. Its exceptionally long bloom season provides months of fresh flowers long after many spring-flowering trees have finished blooming. With its refined appearance, easy-care nature, and impressive floral display, White Chiffon makes a beautiful focal point in landscapes of every size.

  • Botanical name: Hibiscus syriacus 'White Chiffon'
  • Bloom time: Midsummer through fall
  • Deciduous
  • Grown in the USA

SUNLIGHT
Prefers full sun to partial shade.

WATER
Water deeply at the base when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry. During establishment, this is typically once or twice per week, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Once established, water less frequently during dry periods. Watering frequency may vary based on climate, soil type, rainfall, sunlight exposure, and establishment phase.

IDEAL CLIMATE
Hardy in USDA Zones 5–9. White Chiffon Hibiscus Tree thrives in sunny locations with well-draining soil and performs beautifully in cottage gardens, foundation plantings, mixed borders, and specimen plantings.

Note: Because it blooms on new growth, annual pruning in late winter or early spring encourages vigorous flowering each season.

PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

The White Chiffon® Hibiscus Tree, scientifically known as Hibiscus syriacus 'White Chiffon', is a stunning flowering tree prized for its elegant double white blooms that brighten the landscape from early summer to fall. Unlike many flowering trees that bloom only in spring, White Chiffon provides months of fresh flowers when many other plants have finished blooming. Its upright form, long bloom season, and low-maintenance nature make it an excellent focal point for patios, entryways, foundation plantings, and cottage-style gardens.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate-growing deciduous flowering tree. Typically reaches approximately 8–12 feet tall and 4–6 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply at the base when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry. During establishment, this is typically once or twice per week, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Once established, water less frequently, providing occasional deep watering during extended dry periods. Watering frequency will vary depending on climate, soil type, rainfall, sunlight exposure, and the tree's establishment phase.

White Chiffon Hibiscus Tree grows best in full sun to partial shade. Trees planted in full sun typically produce the most abundant blooms and the fullest canopy.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING
Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges. Since White Chiffon blooms on new wood, annual pruning can help encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering.

FERTILIZING
Feed with a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring to encourage healthy growth and flowering. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION
White Chiffon Hibiscus Tree is cold hardy throughout its recommended growing range and generally requires little winter protection once established. Applying mulch around the base helps conserve moisture and insulate the roots during winter.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Plant White Chiffon Hibiscus Tree in a location that receives full sun to partial shade and has well-draining soil. Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as the rootball and no deeper than the rootball itself. Position the top of the rootball level with or slightly above the surrounding soil, backfill with native soil, water deeply after planting, and apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base while keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 5-9

White Chiffon Hibiscus Tree thrives in a wide range of climates and performs best in full sun with well-draining soil. It tolerates summer heat and humidity well, making it an excellent flowering tree for much of the United States. Its long blooming season and adaptability make it a favorite for homeowners looking to enjoy colorful flowers well into late summer and early fall.

Important: USDA Hardiness Zones only measure a plant's cold tolerance. They do not account for heat tolerance, humidity, rainfall, or other climate factors. Always consider your local growing conditions in addition to your USDA Zone when selecting plants.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
