Size depends on how the tree is grown and trained. When kept staked upright, it typically reaches 15–25 feet tall and 2–4 feet wide. If unstaked, it grows as a low, spreading form, reaching 2–4 feet tall and 6 feet or wider.

This spruce has a slow to moderate growth rate. Expect steady growth each year, with faster visual impact when grown staked upright.

Yes. Removing the stake will allow the branches to cascade outward and downward, creating a ground-hugging, spreading form. Staking or unstaking is a design choice and does not affect the plant’s health.

Not necessarily. The tree is typically staked while young to help establish height and structure. Once it has developed a strong central leader, many growers remove the stake and allow the trunk to support itself. Some homeowners choose to keep it staked longer for added height control, but permanent staking is not required for a healthy, upright tree.

Yes, in some cases. If you plan to keep the tree growing upright, the original stake may need to be adjusted, replaced, or extended as the tree gains height. Always ensure ties are loose and flexible to prevent damage and allow natural movement, which helps strengthen the trunk.

If grown upright, plant at least 6–8 feet from buildings or walkways. If planning to let it spread, allow 8–10 feet or more for its mature width.

Very little pruning is required. Prune only to remove damaged branches or to guide shape. Avoid heavy pruning to preserve its natural weeping form.

Yes. It is extremely cold hardy and performs well in USDA Zones 3–7, tolerating snow, wind, and freezing temperatures.

At Simply Trees, we're committed to your satisfaction. If your plants arrive considerably damaged or sustained damage beyond the point of recovery, please contact us within five days at sales@simplytrees.com with clear photos of the entire plant in question for assistance. Our 1 year guarantee covers issues after planting, subject to our terms. We can't cover plants in the wrong climate or with inadequate care, but we're here to help in other situations. All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.
