PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

The Tri-Color Dappled Willow Tree, scientifically known as Salix integra ‘Hakuro Nishiki’, is a colorful ornamental tree prized for its striking pink, white, and green variegated foliage. New growth emerges with vibrant shades of pink before maturing to a beautiful blend of creamy white and green, creating a soft, watercolor-like appearance throughout the growing season. Its compact size, fast growth, and unique foliage make it a standout accent tree for residential landscapes.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Fast-growing deciduous ornamental tree. Typically reaches approximately 8–12 feet tall and 4–6 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry. Approximately once or twice per week during establishment, then as needed to maintain consistent soil moisture once established. Tri-Color Dappled Willow prefers evenly moist soil and may require additional watering during periods of extreme heat or drought. Watering frequency may vary based on climate, soil type, rainfall, and establishment phase.

Tri-Color Dappled Willow grows best in full sun to partial shade. Plants grown in full sun typically develop the brightest pink, white, and green foliage coloration.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Regular pruning helps maintain a compact shape and encourages the colorful new growth that makes this tree so desirable. Light pruning can be performed throughout the growing season, with heavier shaping typically done in late winter or early spring.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring if desired to encourage vigorous growth and vibrant foliage. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Tri-Color Dappled Willow is generally cold hardy throughout its recommended growing range and requires little winter protection once established. Applying mulch around the root zone can help conserve moisture and regulate soil temperatures.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a planting location with full sun to partial shade and consistently moist, well-draining soil. Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as the rootball and plant so the top of the rootball sits level with or slightly above the surrounding soil. Backfill with native soil, water deeply after planting, and apply mulch around the base while keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 4-8

Tri-Color Dappled Willow thrives in a wide range of temperate climates and performs especially well in areas with moderate moisture and full sun. It is highly cold hardy and adapts well to many landscape settings, including foundation plantings, accent gardens, and mixed borders. This ornamental willow appreciates consistent moisture and develops its most vibrant foliage color when planted in sunny locations.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
