Planting instructions
Choose a location with full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and about the same depth as the container. Loosen roots gently, set the plant at the same level it was growing, backfill with native soil, and water thoroughly. Apply 2–3 inches of mulch, keeping it a few inches from the stems. For a hedge, space plants about 2–3 feet apart.
Watering & sunlight
Water Sprinter Boxwood deeply when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry. Newly planted boxwoods typically need watering once or twice per week during their first growing season, and more often during hot, dry, or windy weather. Water at the base of the shrub so moisture reaches the whole root ball, keeping the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Boxwoods do not tolerate standing water around their roots. Once established, Sprinter Boxwood benefits from occasional deep watering during extended dry periods. Plants in containers dry out faster and need more frequent watering. Water deeply in fall before the ground freezes to help prevent winter burn. Watering frequency varies according to USDA Grow Zone, local climate, rainfall, temperature, soil type, and drainage.

Sprinter Boxwood grows in full sun to partial shade. More sun produces denser growth; in hot climates, some afternoon shade is welcome.
Care guide

PRUNING:
Naturally neat with little trimming needed. For a formal look, shear in late spring after the first flush of growth, and avoid shearing in late summer or fall so new growth can harden off before winter.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Within Zones 5–9, it typically needs no special winter protection. Water deeply before the ground freezes and apply 2–3 inches of mulch to help prevent winter burn.

Answered by Simply Trees plant experts
How big does Sprinter Boxwood get?
Sprinter Boxwood typically reaches 2–4 feet tall and 2–4 feet wide, and it fills in faster than most boxwoods.
How fast does Sprinter Boxwood grow?
Sprinter Boxwood has a fast growth rate for a boxwood and fills in faster than most varieties, helping hedges and borders look finished sooner.
Where is the best place to plant Sprinter Boxwood?
Plant it in full sun to partial shade with well-draining soil. In hot climates, some afternoon shade is welcome. It's a great choice for low hedges, edging, foundation plantings, containers, and formal gardens.
How far apart should I plant Sprinter Boxwood?
For a hedge, space plants about 2–3 feet apart so they grow together into a dense, continuous row.
Is Sprinter Boxwood good for a hedge?
Yes. Its dense, upright-rounded habit and fast growth make it ideal for low hedges and edging that fill in quickly.
Does Sprinter Boxwood stay green in winter?
Yes. It's evergreen, and its glossy green leaves hold good color through winter. In exposed, windy sites, winter sun and wind can bronze the leaves, so a sheltered spot and deep watering in fall help.
When should I prune Sprinter Boxwood?
It's naturally neat and needs little trimming. For a formal look, shear in late spring after the first flush of growth. Avoid shearing in late summer or fall so new growth can harden off before winter.
Can Sprinter Boxwood grow in a container?
Yes. At 2–4 feet tall and wide, it works well in containers for entryways and patios. Use a pot with good drainage, since boxwoods don't tolerate standing water, and expect to water more often than in-ground plantings.
Is Sprinter Boxwood cold hardy?
Yes. It's hardy in USDA Zones 5–9, including Zone 5 where many boxwoods suffer winter burn. Water deeply before the ground freezes and apply 2–3 inches of mulch to help prevent winter burn.
Is Sprinter Boxwood deer resistant?
Yes. Boxwoods are known for being deer resistant, making Sprinter a dependable choice for hedges and borders in areas with deer.
