Your first year together

  1. 1Day 1

Plant it, then water slowly until the whole root ball is soaked.

  2. 2First few weeks

Keep the soil evenly moist while new roots settle in.

  3. 3First summer

Water deeply during hot, dry spells.

  4. 4Next spring

New growth starts. Feed as it wakes up.

Planting instructions
Dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball and about the same depth. Place the shrub so the top of the root ball sits level with or slightly above the surrounding soil. Backfill with native soil, water thoroughly, and apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Keep mulch a few inches away from the stem to prevent moisture buildup.
Watering & sunlight
Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, water when the soil begins to dry, typically every 7–10 days depending on your local climate and weather. Skylight Better Boxwood grows well in full sun to partial shade. In warmer regions, afternoon shade can help reduce heat stress and maintain healthy foliage.
Care guide

PRUNING:
Minimal pruning is required because this shrub naturally maintains a dense, upright shape. Light trimming in late winter or early spring can help maintain a neat hedge.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support healthy evergreen growth. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
This shrub is cold hardy in its recommended zones and typically requires no winter protection once established.
