Planting instructions
Choose a location in full sun with well-draining, slightly acidic soil and room for the tree to spread 15–20 feet wide. Dig a hole two to three times wider than the root ball and about the same depth as the nursery container. Place the tree, backfill with native soil, and gently firm to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting and apply 2–3 inches of mulch, keeping it a few inches from the trunk.
Watering & sunlight
Watering needs are never one-size-fits-all. Weather, soil type, drainage, plant size, and planting time all affect how quickly a plant dries out.

Use a slow-running hose, soaker hose, or drip system to water the root ball and surrounding root zone thoroughly. Allow the water to penetrate deeply (not just wet the top few inches of soil), and avoid frequent, shallow watering.

Before watering again, check the soil 3–4 inches deep near the root ball. If it feels dry, repeat this deep-watering process. If it feels moist or soggy, wait and check again in 1–2 days. Check the soil of newly planted trees and shrubs several times per week, especially during hot, dry, or windy weather.

Irrigation run times will vary based on flow rate, soil, and system setup.

Show Time Flowering Crabapple grows best in full sun, which produces the heaviest flowering and fruit set.
Care guide

PRUNING:
Prune lightly in winter while the tree is dormant to remove dead or crossing branches, maintain a single leader, and remove suckers. Heavy pruning is not needed.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring if needed. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Within Zones 4–8, it typically requires no special winter protection. A 2–3 inch layer of mulch helps young trees hold moisture.

Answered by Simply Trees plant experts
How big does Show Time Crabapple get?
Show Time Flowering Crabapple typically grows 20–25 feet tall and 15–20 feet wide at maturity, with an upright, oval shape.
How fast does Show Time Crabapple grow?
Show Time Flowering Crabapple has a moderate to fast growth rate, filling in its upright, oval shape relatively quickly.
Where is the best place to plant Show Time Crabapple?
Plant it in full sun with well-draining, slightly acidic soil and room to spread 15–20 feet wide. It shines as a front-yard focal point, specimen tree, border accent, or small street tree. Since small fruit can drop beneath the tree, consider placement near patios and walkways.
How far apart should I plant Show Time Crabapples?
Space trees about 15–20 feet apart so each canopy has room to develop its full, upright, oval shape.
When does Show Time Crabapple bloom?
It blooms in spring, covering its branches in clusters of fuchsia flowers so dense the wood is nearly hidden. Full sun produces the heaviest flowering.
Does Show Time Crabapple produce fruit?
Yes. Small, glossy red fruit follows the spring blooms and holds on the tree into winter, providing food for birds and extra seasonal color.
Is Show Time Crabapple disease resistant?
Yes. Show Time has good resistance to common crabapple diseases, helping it keep healthy, attractive foliage through the season.
What color does Show Time Crabapple turn in the fall?
Its foliage turns a fiery orange in fall, while the glossy red fruit continues to add color into winter.
Is Show Time Crabapple cold hardy?
Yes. It's hardy in USDA Zones 4–8, handles cold winters well, and typically needs no special winter protection within its zones.
Does Show Time Crabapple require a lot of maintenance?
No. Prune lightly in winter while the tree is dormant to remove dead or crossing branches and maintain a single leader. Remove any suckers from the base of the trunk as they appear. Heavy pruning isn't needed.
