PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Quick Fire® Hydrangea Tree, scientifically known as Hydrangea paniculata ‘Bulk’, is a fast-blooming ornamental hydrangea prized for its large cone-shaped flower clusters and early summer blooms. Part of the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® collection, this hydrangea tree begins flowering earlier than most panicle hydrangeas and continues blooming throughout the season as flowers transition from white to deep pink. With its upright tree form and long-lasting blooms, Quick Fire® Hydrangea Tree is a striking focal point for landscape beds, entryways, and garden borders.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate. Typically grows 1–2 feet per year and reaches 6–8 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide at maturity when grown as a tree form.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply once or twice per week during the first growing season to establish the root system. Once established, hydrangeas prefer consistent moisture, especially during hot weather. Watering needs will vary depending on soil conditions, rainfall, temperature, and local climate.

Quick Fire® Hydrangea Tree grows best in full sun to partial sun, with morning sun and some protection from strong afternoon heat in warmer climates.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Quick Fire® Hydrangea blooms on new wood, meaning flowers form on the current season’s growth. Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the tree and encourage vigorous flowering.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer for flowering shrubs in early spring to support healthy growth and abundant blooms.

WINTER PROTECTION:
This hydrangea is very cold hardy and generally requires no special winter protection within its recommended zones. Applying mulch around the base can help conserve moisture and protect roots.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a planting location with full sun to partial sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and about the same depth as the container so the plant sits at the same level it was previously growing. Place the tree in the hole, backfill with soil, and gently firm the soil around the roots. Water thoroughly after planting to help settle the soil. Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch slightly away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 3-8

Quick Fire® Hydrangea grows well in USDA Zones 3–8 and is known for its excellent cold hardiness. This panicle hydrangea thrives in a wide range of climates, from colder northern regions to moderate summer climates. It performs best in full sun to partial sun with well-draining soil and consistent moisture. In warmer parts of its range, some afternoon shade helps protect the plant from intense heat.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
