Private Jet™ Arborvitae is a fast-growing evergreen privacy tree designed for homeowners who want a dense privacy screen without waiting decades for results. Its naturally upright habit, rich green foliage, and narrower mature width make it ideal for property lines, fences, and landscape borders where space is limited. Easy to grow and attractive year-round, it offers a beautiful balance of speed, density, and manageable size.

  • Botanical name: Thuja occidentalis 'King of Brabant'
  • Evergreen
  • Grown in the USA

SUNLIGHT
Prefers full sun to partial shade.

WATER
Water deeply at the base when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry. During establishment, this is typically once or twice per week, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Once established, water less frequently during dry periods. Watering frequency may vary based on climate, soil type, rainfall, sunlight exposure, and establishment phase.

IDEAL CLIMATE
Hardy in USDA Zones 3–8. Private Jet Arborvitae thrives in sunny locations with well-draining soil and is an excellent choice for privacy screens, windbreaks, and property borders.

Note: For the healthiest establishment, monitor the moisture within the original rootball during the first growing season rather than watering on a fixed schedule.

PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

The Private Jet™ Arborvitae, scientifically known as Thuja occidentalis 'King of Brabant', is a fast-growing evergreen privacy tree prized for its dense, rich green foliage and naturally narrow, upright form. Unlike many larger arborvitae varieties, Private Jet offers rapid growth while maintaining a slimmer footprint, making it an excellent choice for privacy screens in residential landscapes. Its year-round color, low-maintenance care, and cold hardiness make it an outstanding option for homeowners looking to create privacy more quickly.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Fast-growing evergreen privacy tree. Typically reaches approximately 15–20 feet tall and 4–5 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply at the base when the top 2–3 inches of soil begin to dry. During establishment, this is typically once or twice per week, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Once established, water less frequently, providing occasional deep watering during extended dry periods. Watering frequency will vary depending on climate, soil type, rainfall, sunlight exposure, and the tree's establishment phase.

Private Jet Arborvitae grows best in full sun to partial shade. Trees planted in full sun typically produce the densest foliage and fastest growth.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING
Private Jet Arborvitae naturally maintains a dense, upright form and requires very little pruning. Remove dead or damaged branches as needed, or lightly shape the tree to maintain a formal hedge.

FERTILIZING
Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring if desired to encourage healthy growth. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION
Private Jet Arborvitae is highly cold hardy and generally requires little winter protection once established. Applying mulch around the base helps insulate the roots and conserve soil moisture throughout the year.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Plant Private Jet Arborvitae in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Dig a hole approximately twice as wide as the rootball and no deeper than the rootball itself. Position the top of the rootball level with or slightly above the surrounding soil, backfill with native soil, water deeply after planting, and apply a 2–3 inch layer of mulch around the base while keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 3-8

Private Jet Arborvitae thrives across a wide range of climates and performs best in full sun to partial shade with well-draining soil. It is exceptionally cold hardy while also tolerating warm summers with proper watering during establishment. Its fast growth and naturally dense branching make it one of the best evergreen privacy trees for homeowners throughout much of the United States.

Important: USDA Hardiness Zones only measure a plant's cold tolerance. They do not account for heat tolerance, humidity, rainfall, or other climate factors. Always consider your local growing conditions in addition to your USDA Zone when selecting plants.

Yes. With a mature width of only 4–5 feet, Private Jet Arborvitae is one of the best evergreen privacy trees for homeowners with limited planting space. Its fast growth and naturally narrow habit make it ideal for planting along fences, property lines, driveways, and side yards where a traditional privacy tree may become too wide.

Yes. Private Jet Arborvitae adapts well to many soil types, including clay, provided the soil drains reasonably well. Avoid areas where water remains standing for extended periods.

Yes. Private Jet Arborvitae responds well to light pruning and can be maintained at a shorter height if desired. Light annual pruning helps preserve its dense, upright appearance.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
