PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Jade Fire™ Oliver Maple Tree, scientifically known as Acer oliverianum subsp. formosanum, is a rare and heat-tolerant maple prized for its vibrant fall color and adaptability to warmer climates. This ornamental shade tree features glossy green foliage through the growing season before turning brilliant shades of orange, red, and scarlet in fall. With its strong structure, drought tolerance, and excellent heat resistance, Jade Fire™ Maple is a standout choice for homeowners looking for a maple tree suited for southern landscapes.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate. Jade Fire™ Maple typically grows 1–2 feet per year and reaches about 25 feet tall and 10 feet wide at maturity.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply once or twice per week during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, Jade Fire™ Maple is moderately drought tolerant, though it benefits from occasional deep watering during extended dry periods. Watering frequency will vary depending on climate, soil type, rainfall, and sunlight exposure.

Jade Fire™ Maple grows best in full sun to partial sun, with more sunlight encouraging stronger fall color.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Prune in late winter while the tree is dormant to remove dead or crossing branches and maintain structure. Minimal pruning is typically required.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced slow-release tree fertilizer in early spring if needed to support healthy growth and foliage color. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Jade Fire™ Maple is cold hardy within its recommended zones and generally requires no special winter protection once established. Applying 2–3 inches of mulch around the base can help protect roots and retain moisture.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Choose a planting location with full sun to partial sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole two to three times wider than the root ball and about the same depth as the container. Place the tree in the hole, backfill with soil, and gently firm to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting. Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the base to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 7-9

Jade Fire™ Maple grows well in USDA Zones 7–9 and is especially valued for its ability to tolerate heat and humidity better than many traditional maples. It thrives in warm climates while still producing vibrant fall color. This tree performs best in full sun with well-draining soil and adapts well to residential landscapes across much of the southern and transitional U.S.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
