PLANT DESCRIPTION & MATURE SIZE

Fuyu Persimmon Tree, botanically known as Diospyros kaki ‘Fuyu’, is a highly popular fruit tree prized for its sweet, non-astringent persimmons that can be eaten while still firm. This easy-growing deciduous tree produces bright orange fruit in fall and features attractive foliage that adds seasonal interest to the landscape. With excellent heat tolerance and minimal maintenance needs, the Fuyu Persimmon Tree is a great choice for home orchards and backyard gardens.

GROWTH RATE & MATURE SIZE:

Moderate growth rate; typically reaches 15–20 feet tall and 15–20 feet wide at maturity.

Sizing: Our fruit and citrus trees are primarily utilized as outdoor patio or indoor plants and are potted. Accordingly, we measure our fruit and citrus trees from the bottom of the pot to the top of the tree for accuracy.

WATERING & SUNLIGHT

Water deeply 1–2 times per week during the first growing season. Once established, water every 7–10 days during dry periods. Consistent moisture during flowering and fruit development helps improve fruit size and quality. The Fuyu Persimmon Tree requires full sun to produce the best fruit quality and yield. At least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day is ideal.

PLANT CARE & PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS

PRUNING:
Prune in late winter while the tree is dormant to remove dead or crossing branches and maintain an open canopy. Minimal pruning is needed once the tree is established.

FERTILIZING:
Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring before new growth begins. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage leafy growth at the expense of fruit. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Cold hardy within its recommended zones. In colder areas, mulch around the base of young trees to protect roots from extreme temperature fluctuations.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

Dig a hole twice as wide and the same depth as the root ball. Place the tree so the top of the root ball sits level with the surrounding soil. Backfill with native soil, water thoroughly, and apply mulch around the base, keeping it a few inches away from the trunk.

USDA GROW ZONE:

Zones 7-10

The Fuyu Persimmon Tree thrives in regions with warm summers and mild to moderate winters. It performs well across much of the southern and western United States and is adaptable to a range of climates within its growing zones. This tree tolerates heat and humidity and is more cold-hardy than many other persimmon varieties. Consistent sunlight and well-draining soil help ensure reliable fruit production.

All California orders require a mandatory inspection by the Texas Department of Agriculture (yep, it’s a USDA thing!). These inspections happen about once a week—typically on Tuesdays, though the day can vary. If you place an order just after an inspection, your plant may not ship for several days until the next one. Unfortunately, we’re not able to expedite this part of the process.

Also, due to USDA regulations, we’re unable to ship oak trees, citrus or fruit trees (except olive trees) to California. This rule helps prevent the spread of pests and diseases and applies to nurseries across the country.

Thanks for your patience—we’ll make sure it’s worth the wait.
