Planting instructions
Plant Aloe Vera in well-draining soil or cactus mix. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball and position the plant so the base of the leaves sits just above the soil line. Backfill with soil and water lightly after planting. When growing in containers, choose pots with drainage holes to prevent excess moisture buildup.
Watering & sunlight
Water lightly and allow the soil to dry out completely between watering. Typically water every 2–3 weeks, depending on temperature, soil type, and humidity levels. Aloe Vera prefers dry conditions and should not sit in wet soil.

Aloe Vera grows best in bright sunlight, ideally full sun to partial sun, which helps maintain healthy growth.
Care guide

PRUNING:
Minimal pruning is needed. Remove older outer leaves or any damaged foliage as needed to maintain plant health and appearance.

FERTILIZING:
Feed lightly with a balanced succulent fertilizer once in spring or early summer if desired. Avoid overfertilizing. Avoid fertilizing for the first 2–3 months after delivery to allow the plant to adjust and establish.

WINTER PROTECTION:
Aloe Vera is sensitive to frost. In cooler climates, grow it in containers and move indoors during winter.

Answered by Simply Trees plant experts
How big does Aloe Vera get?
Aloe Vera plants typically grow 12–24 inches tall and 12–24 inches wide, forming a rosette of thick succulent leaves.
How fast does Aloe Vera grow?
Aloe Vera has a moderate growth rate, gradually producing new leaves and occasionally offsets (baby plants) around the base.
Where is the best place to plant Aloe Vera?
Plant Aloe Vera in a location with full sun to partial sun and well-draining soil, such as cactus or succulent soil mixes.
Can Aloe Vera grow in containers?
Yes. Aloe Vera grows very well in containers with drainage holes, making it ideal for indoor growing or patios.
How often should Aloe Vera be watered?
Aloe Vera should be watered only after the soil has completely dried out, typically every 2–3 weeks depending on climate.
How long does Aloe Vera bloom for?
When mature, Aloe Vera may produce flower spikes that can last several weeks during spring or summer.
Does Aloe Vera produce baby plants?
Yes. Aloe Vera commonly produces offsets, often called “pups,” which can be separated and replanted to grow new plants.
Is Aloe Vera drought tolerant?
Yes. Aloe Vera is highly drought tolerant because it stores water in its leaves.
Is Aloe Vera frost tolerant?
No. Aloe Vera is sensitive to freezing temperatures and should be protected from frost.
What do Aloe Vera flowers look like?
Aloe Vera produces tall flower spikes with clusters of tubular yellow flowers that grow above the plant’s rosette of fleshy leaves. The flowers typically appear on a long upright stalk and bloom in dense, cone-shaped clusters, creating a striking contrast against the thick green foliage. These nectar-rich blooms can attract bees and other pollinators when grown outdoors in warm climates.
